Equal1, a leader in silicon-based quantum computing, welcomes the launch of Ireland's Quantum 2030 Implementation Plan, a major step toward establishing the country as an internationally competitive hub for quantum technologies.
Launched by James Lawless, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, the Implementation Plan outlines the actions needed to deliver Ireland's national Quantum 2030 Strategy, introduced in 2023. The strategy aims to strengthen Ireland's quantum research, innovation and commercialization capabilities while positioning the country at the forefront of this emerging technology.
The plan was developed in collaboration with the Quantum Implementation Group, bringing together representatives from government, industry, academia and national agencies, including Professor Elena Blokhina, Chief Scientific Officer of Equal1.
"Ireland has an opportunity to become a global leader in quantum technologies by building on its strengths in semiconductor engineering, research and innovation," said Jason Lynch, CEO of Equal1. "The Quantum 2030 Implementation Plan is an important step toward translating that potential into real-world impact. We're proud that Elena has contributed to this effort and that Equal1 can play a role in advancing Ireland's quantum ambitions."
As a University College Dublin spin-out, Equal1 is helping bridge the gap between quantum research and commercial deployment. Its flagship RacQ quantum computer combines silicon-spin qubits, integrated classical computing and self-contained cryogenic technology in a rack-mounted system designed to operate in standard data centres.
By leveraging established semiconductor manufacturing processes, Equal1 is developing scalable quantum computing technology with the potential to support future applications in drug discovery, materials science, AI and other computationally demanding industries.
Equal1 remains committed to working with Ireland's research institutions, industry partners and government agencies to accelerate quantum innovation and help build a globally competitive quantum ecosystem.
