Senior IT and DevOps Administrator

LOCATION:  Dublin, Ireland (Required)

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior IT and DevOps Administrator to maintain and optimize our mission-critical infrastructure supporting advanced research and development. In this role, you will ensure reliable 24x7x365 system uptime, implement automation and monitoring tools, and collaborate closely with software developers and engineers to streamline deployment pipelines. The ideal candidate has experience as a DevOps Engineer and combines deep Linux expertise with strong networking, and cloud computing knowledge.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to support a 24x7x365 uptime service.

  • Engineer systems administration and development tool solutions for various project and operational needs.

  • Maintain best practices for managing systems and services across all environments.

  • Fault finding, analysis and logging information for reporting performance exceptions.

  • Proactively monitor system performance and capacity planning.

  • Manage, coordinate, ensure consistency and implement software upgrades, patches, and hotfixes on servers, workstations, and network hardware.

  • Create and modify Ansible scripts or applications to perform tasks.

  • Ensure that systems are safe and secure against cybersecurity threats.

  • Provide input on ways to improve the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment.

  • Collaborate with other teams and team members to improve development, deployment and release processes.

  • Work with software developers and software engineers to ensure that development follows established processes and works as intended.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Computer Science, Information Systems or similar relevant degree. 

  • Experience as a DevOps engineer or in a similar software engineering role.

  • In-depth knowledge of Python, C++, Julia, R development environments.

  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows.

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of Linux, including RedHat, CentOS, Debian, etc. AND must be currently maintaining several Linux systems.

  • Familiarity with virtual environments (Docker, Kubernetes, Podman).

  • Knowledge of Slurm and HPC environments.

  • Networking:  NAS (e.g. QNAP or Synology), VPNs, Firewalls.

  • Managing Windows 10/11 environments.

  • Experience in Cloud computing environments, e.g.  AWS, Google, Azure, Linnode, and DigitalOcean.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
