Principle Analog & Mixed-Signal Engineer
Location: Dublin, Ireland
We are seeking a highly accomplished Analog/Mixed-Signal Engineer to join our silicon design team. This is a pivotal and technically influential role within Equal1, responsible for the architecture, design, and delivery of advanced mixed-signal circuits that define the next generation of our Quantum System-on-Chip (QSoC) devices. The role offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research and innovation in cryogenic analog design, quantum device interfacing, and single-electron detection, driving the circuits and systems that enable scalable quantum computing technologies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
-
Lead the detailed design, simulation, and implementation of cryogenic analog and mixed-signal circuits central to Equal1’s quantum processor technology.
-
Define, architect, and drive mixed-signal solutions, analyzing design trade-offs in performance, power, sensitivity, and scalability to guide system-level decisions.
-
Act as a technical authority and peer reviewer across multiple cryogenic IP blocks, ensuring design quality, reliability, and right-first-time execution.
-
Collaborate closely with system and quantum architecture, digital design, test, and quantum device physics teams to deliver cohesive, high-performance QSoC solutions.
-
Drive behavioral model development, verification strategies, and post-silicon validation, ensuring seamless integration, comprehensive functional coverage, and strong silicon correlation.
-
Utilize state-of-the-art EDA tools and methodologies to optimize the full design flow — from concept and schematic through custom layout, verification, and QSoC integration.
-
Lead post-silicon validation and bring-up of cryo circuits, including test plan definition, measurement analysis, and correlation of results between silicon and simulation.
-
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, contractors, and external partners, fostering a culture of excellence, learning, and innovation.
-
Stay at the forefront of analog and quantum circuit research, contributing to Equal1’s patent portfolio and technical publications through innovative design and methodology development.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
-
Solid understanding of semiconductor device physics, particularly as it applies to cryogenic and quantum operating regimes.
-
Strong background in low-noise, low-power circuit design used in single-electron detection and qubit manipulation.
-
Experience in analog and mixed-signal circuit design and architecture using FDX22SOI and/or advanced FinFET technologies.
-
Fluency with industry-standard EDA tools for schematic, simulation, layout, and verification in deep-submicron CMOS.
-
Proven ability in custom layout-driven design and analog cell development, ensuring precision, matching, and robustness against parasitics, and process variation.
-
Experienced in validation and bench testing, including test definition, measurement-to-simulation correlation, and post-processing of results for performance analysis.
-
Preference for candidates with cryogenic, quantum, or single-electron detection backgrounds, reflecting the innovative R&D focus of this role.
-
Track record of publications and patents in relevant areas is highly desirable.
-
Advanced degree (PhD, MSc, or BEng) in Electronic Engineering, Physics, or related field.
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proactive, adaptable, and collaborative.
